"I aspire to be completely free of all forms, symbols, coherence, and logic". Vassily Kandinsky could have signed this credo by Arnold Schoenberg, after their meeting in 1911. Their intense dialogue, a concomitance of thoughts, led to a complete upheaval in the History of Art prior to the First World War. The program by Heinz Holliger gravitates around the Second Viennese School. His own music is a part of this school, through his melancholic ethos and his art of encrypting. Increschantüm carries homesickness, wandering, phantasmagorical, not far from Alban Berg, while Niccolò Castiglioni lets his own language be seen, the influence of Webern’s aphoristic style.

With a Viennese soul, this final is also the birth of the new ULYSSES Ensemble, a group of young musicians taking part in several European academies. Assisted by the soloists from the Ensemble intercontemporain, these performers will discover and practice the 20th century repertoire and that of IRCAM, in this case Sul Segno, the masterpiece by Yan Maresz. A bewitching world of plucked strings and moving figures, synthesis by resonance models. Technology bows to a poetic project.
