Wim Vandekeybus
Director (b. 1963)
After studing psychology, Wim Vandekeybus auditioned for Jan Fabre who offered him a role in 1985. A year later, he founded Ultima Vez. “For me, the form needs to be different each time,” he says. “This is why, once, I created a very musical show (nieuwZwart), and the next time I put a lone man in front of a film (Monkey Sandwich), or I direct a classic mythological work (Oedipus/bêt noir), or I create an analysis-performance where theatricality plays a major role (booty Looting or Talk to the Demon).” In all these productions, he remains faithful to his language of movement. Tension, conflict of the body compared to the mind, risks, and impulses. Corporality, passion, intuition, and instinct: pillars that take on a new form each time.
